Children’s drawings during a period of confinement

Imagine a Museum collection of children’s drawings made during the Covid-19 pandemic, deposited by teachers, parents or grandparents, after digitization. These drawings, deposited on the Museum’s virtual shelves, would then form a memorial corpus that could be consulted by all.

Consulting these drawings, for example during a virtual visit by a class accompanied by its teacher, can make it easier for children to talk about their experiences and authorise comparisons and comments.

Recurring or exceptional motifs extracted from these drawings by artificial intelligence can be interpreted by childhood specialists.

Better still, if the drawings are dated, it becomes possible for researchers to construct trajectories of recurring or exceptional motifs, to observe how their density changes over time, and so on.

Finally, it would even be possible, using statistical approaches, to compare any child’s drawings with those in the Museum, to obtain information about his or her experience of the period.

The Musée de l’Éducation Nationale has agreed to contribute to this collection.
